The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining the structure, processes and individuals that ensure the successful execution of the Skullcandy product strategy specifically for electrical, software, RF, and acoustic engineering. To be successful in this role, the manager must align with executive level strategies from around the organization and prioritize the workload of the Product team to meet critical goals. The leader must ensure that there is sufficient incubation and clear project direction for the innovation teams, while still maintaining the flexibility and agility to be entrepreneurial for the business.


The Electrical Engineering Manager is also the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the respective engineering disciplines.  The SME is a highly skilled engineer who is responsible for actively working on ongoing projects while mentoring the team, creating and driving solid engineering design process, and providing final oversight and review into engineering designs and decisions. This also includes managing R&D initiatives and fostering the growth of the systems engineering team and Technology Roadmap.


This role is the direct supervisor over the electrical, software, acoustic and RF engineering teams and resources located in Park City in addition to managing all external and/or contract based resources within this discipline.  Additional alignment with the engineering resources in Shenzhen China is also to be expected.


Primary Functional Responsibilities

  • Technical Program Planning
    • Align and integrate with the Product Management team to create and drive 3-year product roadmaps
    • On time delivery of key stage gate outputs including product Experience Specifications, works-like prototypes, proof of concept prototypes
    • Create successful engineering plans, project scopes, and assignment of appropriate engineering resources
  • Team Leadership
    • Mentor the team and foster their growth. Establish clear goals and growth opportunities (long and short-term) for team members and help facilitate achievement.
    • Develop and drive key team competencies of rapid innovation through iterative, minimum viable product techniques
    • Challenge engineering team to solve problems in different ways to creatively overcome obstacles
    • Create guidelines for how to validate design early
    • Facilitate guideline usage among engineering team
    • Lead in-depth design reviews early and often in the process


  • Technical Lead (SME + R&D)
    • Present at major gate review meetings to review designs
    • Final review and sign off of ODM and OEM engineering designs
    • Drive R&D projects
    • In-depth failure analysis when necessary
    • Leverage project work as teaching opportunities for rest of engineering team


 Required Experience and Skills

  • 7+ Years in consumer electronics engineering and manufacturing
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Related Field
  • Extensive experience with prototyping for validation
  • Experience creating reliable and accurate testing methods for prototypes
  • Strong ability to tackle ambiguous challenges with solid problem solving skills
  • Engineering process-driven mindset with ability to facilitate process within team
  • Ability to teach and mentor through collaboratively working on projects with other teammates
  • Strong ability to review designs and assess risks for failure modes
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset and drive
  • Demonstrated passion for developing and leading world-class teams, products and user experiences
